A crackle loop on the record player while we both sit on the rug and look at our screens. Covid worry this weekend and I’m very ready to go back to our regularly scheduled anxiety.
Turns out Gary-my-babycat has a thing that makes his kitty immune system fight against itself and it turns out that he has to have all his teeth extracted. The vet talks me through it while Maewyn and I sat in our car with the seat warmers on. I didn’t mind dropping them off. Usually, my face gets all flushed and red when I got to the vet because my body absorbs the stress of the cats, and when I leave I’m covered in cat hair. I didn’t mind the distance today. Also, it turns out, the cats don’t fit into one pet carrier anymore, so I borrowed one from my cheery and perpetually helpful neighbor. We put both carriers in the way back and as we drove down the street on the way there, Maewyn says, “Maybe we should just roll down the windows and shout FREE MEOWS!” Her standup routine is the cat’s meow. The vet tells me that when this happened to his cat, when she had all her kitteeth taken out, she turned into a much happier and nicer cat. It’s a 4 hour procedure. They block off the whole day to do these, turns out.
I am a deflated balloon, this afternoon.
This evening, I lay down on the kitchen floor and played this song in my headphones, still wearing my hat from when we ran up to the roof to watch the space station pass across the sky.
